Week 1: Building Foundations and Confidence
The first week of camp was all about laying the groundwork. With 22 young participants, including many who were new to both the camp and Muay Thai, the focus was on building confidence, learning basic techniques, and creating a supportive community. By Day 3, the participants had begun to form bonds with one another, setting the stage for a supportive and collaborative camp environment.
Week 2: Stepping Up and Refining Skills
The second week of the camp brought with it a sense of growing confidence and camaraderie among the young participants. The week kicked off with 13 young people and 6 adults on Day 1, where pad work and sparring drills took centre stage. The participants were encouraged to showcase their skills, and the coaches were pleased to see significant improvements, particularly in confidence. A fun kick challenge added an element of competition, with winners receiving fresh coconuts as a reward.
Day 2 was all about refining technique. With a smaller group of 8 participants, the session allowed for more detailed instruction. The young people worked on combinations and balance during drills, with two participants standing out in partnered exercises. The session ended with an educational quiz and a fruit tasting, featuring exotic treats that the children thoroughly enjoyed.
The final day of Week 3 brought 11 participants together for a mix of fun and learning. The warm-up included partnered exercises that everyone found engaging. The session focused on pad work and introduced sparring, providing an opportunity for the young people to demonstrate the techniques they had learned. Special recognition was given to those who showed significant growth in confidence and skill, and the day concluded with an impressive plank challenge, where two children held out for 10 minutes, much to the amazement of everyone present.
