The highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the legendary battle-action manga series Yu Yu Hakusho is set to hit Netflix on December 14th. Directed by Shô Tsukikawa with visual effects by Scanline (known for their work on Shadow and Bone, Stranger Things, and Cowboy Bebop), the series boasts a stellar cast.

Yu Yu Hakusho Series Premieres On December 14th

In the realm of anime adaptations, exciting developments are underway! Acclaimed director Sho Tsukikawa, renowned for his work on the live-action film Let Me Eat Your Pancreas, takes the helm. Collaborating on the script is the talented Tatsurō Mishima. Adding visual magic is VFX supervisor Ryō Sakaguchi, known for his work on The Lord of the Rings and X-Men.


In a casting coup, the role of the 14-year-old delinquent Yusuke Urameshi goes to the promising Takumi Kitamura, celebrated for his performances in live-action hits like Tokyo Revengers and Let Me Eat Your Pancreas.


The story centres around Yusuke Urameshi, a valiant teenager who meets an untimely demise while saving a child in a car accident. His unexpected death catches the Spirit World off guard, leading to a unique proposition: a chance at resurrection as a "spirit detective." Tasked with battling demons, Yusuke's journey takes a supernatural turn, promising thrilling adventures and supernatural encounters.


Adding to the anticipation, TOHO Studios and Netflix have solidified a groundbreaking collaboration. The multi-year contract, initiated in April 2021, grants Netflix access to two of TOHO's prestigious stage facilities in Tokyo. This collaboration marks Netflix's inaugural production at these studios, paving the way for a highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the beloved anime, Yu Yu Hakusho. Fans can expect a fusion of stellar talent, compelling storytelling, and cutting-edge visuals, promising an immersive experience in the world of the spirit detective.
